To win an Inter Club pennant is a massive task, the standards are so high. Quality, determination, self sacrifice are some of the qualities required as well as a kind draw and a bit of luck.
Tommy Murphy and Sean Purcell led their All Ireland Fourball team to a magnificent win last weekend away to a competitive Beaverstown.
The team showed resilience after a nervous start. Despite going behind early on, the team stayed calm and played steady golf on the back nine to finish strongly and win the two home matches with a crucial away win in Beaverstown getting St Margaret’s through to the next round against our neighbours Sillogue GC. Well done lads.
The Barton Cup panel had a practice in Malahide last weekend as they prepare for their match on Sunday 7th April at 1 pm. 3 at home, 2 away. Good luck.
Our PGA professional Shane is coaching/advising our teams prior to their matches and this weekend his goes out with the Barton Cup panel on the course.
Eoin Kelly had a session with Shane for his Metropolitan Cup panel which was well received. I hear there was a competitive edge to the chipping practice. The team is preparing for their match against Corrstown on 21st April, 5 away and 4 home. Best wishes to his assistant manager Mark Whelan.
I hope our members found the Rules Night of benefit. With so many changes it is highly likely there will be claims made against our teams for incorrect procedure/dropping etc.
Please remember not to concede a hole without requesting a ruling from the team manager. Stay calm, read the rules and be 100% certain of the applicable penalty before a concession is made. More on this subject in later issues.
